Today's (or rather that day's) challenge was a Harry Potter/Glee crossover.
Enjoy.
Characters: Remus/Rachel
Prompt: candle light
Random words: a random christmas cake (my choice), cat, orange
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters or names you can recognize. I'm just having fun and I'm not making any money from it!
Relax
Remus had always found candlelight very relaxing. Wizards had candles everywhere, Muggles were different. Muggles used electricity for everything. They even had electric lights on their Christmas trees. Remus hated artificial candles on a Christmas tree, but he also understood that Muggles didn't have protective spells, and that a lot of trees would catch fire if they used real ones.
He had lit a candle on his desk and just sat there looking at it when he heard a knock on the door.
“Come in.”
“You wanted to see me, Professor Lupin?” A dark-haired girl with an orange ribbon in her hair peered into the classroom.
“Yes, come in, Rachel.” Remus smiled and gestured for the girl to sit down.
“Christmas man?” He held out a tin filled with pale, man-shaped cookies.
“A what?”
“It's a Norwegian Christmas pastry. It's really good.”
“Professor Lupin, you know I'm Jewish right?” Rachel raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, but that doesn't mean you can't have a cookie, does it?”
“Well...” Rachel hesitated, but took a so-called Christmas man and bit of his head. “Ewww, that's disgusting.”
“I find them rather interesting,” Remus smiled, but held out the bin so Rachel could spit it out.
“Why am I here, Professor?” Rachel asked. “Is there a problem with my homework? If not, I should really get back to Glee practice. We are doing a -”
“Rachel, relax.” Remus interrupted. “I think that you are wearing yourself out. You need to calm down.”
“If you're suggesting that I drop out of Glee club, you can forget it. I think my future career is a lot more important than knowing “The Cat in the Hat” by heart and analysing it to pieces. Performing is my life, Professor Lupin.”
“I know that, Rachel, and I'm not telling you to drop out. Doing whatever makes you happy is only good for you. Although, the “Cat in the Hat” has never hurt anybody.”
“Well - “
“You know what I mean.” Remus chuckled.
“Then why am I here, Professor?”
“I want you to sit down for a second, take a deep breath and just relax.”
“Relax? But I have to go to rehearsal!” Rachel objected.
“Rachel! Sit down, and relax or I will have to reconsider your grade.”
“That's not fair!”
“It's very easy to avoid it Rachel. I'm only asking you for a few minutes of your precious time. And the more you object, the longer it will take. Sit down and just breathe in the calm Christmas spirit.”
“I'm still Jewish, Professor.”
“You do celebrate the Festival of Lights, don't you.”
“Yes...” Rachel mumbled.
“Then enjoy the candlelight.” Remus suggested.
“Are you allowed to burn candles in your classroom, Professor? Did Principal Figgins allow it? Mr Shuester tried to light a candle once, and then Miss Sylvester came in and -”
“Rachel, the clock is ticking.”
Rachel stopped talking and just looked at the candles in front of her.
“Deep breaths,” Remus said with his eyes closed, and Rachel did as she was told.
After a few minutes of silence, Remus opened his eyes. The girl was sitting there with her arms crossed over her chest.
“Now, don't you feel a lot better?” Remus asked and smiled.
“Can I go now?”
Remus nodded, and she was out of the door before Remus could say anything. He sighed. At least he had tried.
Enjoy.
