Summary: Remus and Severus discuss Muggle politics.
Politics
Severus Snape walked through the front door of his house, and found his life partner rolling on the living room floor, laughing.
Severus raised an eyebrow. “Dare I ask?”
Remus was laughing loudly, but managed to calm himself down a bit to be able to speak. “Did you know that the Muggle Prime Minister has to kiss the Queen's hands before he or she can enter their house?”
“They what?” Severus replied at once. “I thought the Queen had more important things to do than to stand outside the Minister's house getting her hands kissed.”
“No, Severus, only the first time they enter the house, and she doesn't stand outside the house. The Minister visits her.” Remus explained.
Severus merely looked at him, his eyebrow cocked.
“Oh,” Remus suddenly understood. “You're joking.”
“Indeed.”
“But isn't it odd, Severus?” Remus wondered.
“Well, they're Muggles. What else can you expect?” Severus sat down on the sofa and picked up the Daily Prophet. “What brought this on, if I might ask?”
“I went to one of those Muggle coffee shops today,” Remus answered.
“And you discussed Muggle politics with someone?”
“No, I went to one of those Internet places and I read an article about the Muggle Prime Minister on that leakypedia thingy.
Severus rolled his eyes. “Wikipedia, I'm sure!”
“That's what I said,” said Remus. “And apparently they have to announce to the world that they have done the hand kissing thing. And the Queen asks them to form a government.”
“Really?” Severus mumbled, only half paying attention.
“Is that wise, Severus?” Remus asked.
“What is?”
“That the Queen decides who becomes Minister?” Remus asked. “Is it wise to have one really old lady deciding that?”
“The Queen doesn't choose the Prime Minister. The people does.”
“The people?”
“Yes, didn't you just tell me you read an article? Surely they must have mentioned that.”
“No, I only read that part, I started laughing so hard I couldn't read anything else after that,” said Remus and began to chuckle again.
Severus sighed.
“They have an election,” he explained. “Different parties choose who they want to represent them as Prime Minister and then the people votes for who they want to run the country.”
“The Muggles get to choose? They place something that important in the hands of unqualified Muggles?”
“Indeed they do,” Severus said and turned his attention to the Prophet.
“What do you think would happen if we had elections, Severus? I can start a party. I can get Molly to make the food, and I bet Fred and George has some funny decorations we can use, and -”
“Calm down, wolf. It's not that kind of party,” Severus sighed, “it's a political party! They have a list of promises and issues they claim to do better than the other party.”
“Sounds like a boring party,” Remus said disappointed and Severus moaned loudly.
“Next time, read the entire article, will you? If you are going to have opinions on Muggle issues, you should at least get your facts straight.”
Remus shrugged. “Oh, I found something else too. I printed it out. Hold on, it's in the kitchen.” He jumped up from the sofa and stormed into the kitchen to fetch a piece of paper.
“Please tell me it's not another article on Muggle politics.” Severus moaned.
“It's not, it's so much better!” Remus beamed. “Look, isn't it cute? I can has cheezburger too, Severus?”
Severus' head went straight to the coffee table.
