Happy birthday, Kat!
*klem*

It was a very cold Tuesday morning in Scarborough. Severus Snape woke up early and had a weird feeling in his stomach. He felt like there was something missing, or that he had forgotten something important. He couldn't explain what it was, and tried to ignore it at first.

He got out of bed, made himself some toast and tea for breakfast and went to his laboratory to finish some of the potions he had brewing for his small, but very economically stable business.

Brilliant as he was, Severus finished a set of perfect potions, even if his head wasn't in it. He couldn't help but feel that there was something he had forgotten. The weird feeling in his stomach wouldn't go away.

Severus made himself some lunch and decided to go for a walk to clear his thoughts and maybe find out what all this was about.

He walked out of his cottage, which he had inherited from his grandfather, Livius. He had lived alone in that cottage ever since the war. It was a quiet life, which suited Severus perfectly, he'd had enough action in his life.

He walked down to the beach and looked out at the sea. It was freezing and he hugged the jacket tighter around him. He wasn't particularly fond of the cold, but at least it wasn't snow. He laughed to himself at how Muggles just couldn't handle snow. An inch of the white and the whole country seemed to stop. He thought that they would have gotten used to it by now. Winter often means snow, but the Muggles didn't seem to remember that.

Severus sat down on a stone and cast a bluebell flame to keep warm. What was he forgetting?

“Think, Severus!” he said to himself. “It's November. What is happening in November?”

Severus thought hard about what was special about November, but got distracted by a white cat that walked towards him. The cat came up to Severus and started to rub against his leg.

Severus stretched out his hand and stroked the cat. “Hello there little cat. You really remind me of a cat I had when I was young. He was called Prince.”

The cat started to purr and a smile appeared on Severus' face.

He sat on the stone for a little while, patting the cat and just let his mind wander. But his mind seemed to drift to everything else when he tried to remember what he supposedly had forgotten.

His hands began to get really cold and he decided that it was time to go back to his cottage. He said goodbye to the cat and told him to find his home so he didn't freeze either. Not that he thought the cat was listening, but he felt that it was the right thing to do. Then he started to walk back home.

He had only walked a couple of yards when he noticed that the cat was following him. He stopped.

“Go home, cat,” said Severus and continued walking back to his warm cottage. The cat didn't listen and kept following Severus.

“Fine,” sighed Severus. “Come with me then.”

Severus and the cat walked back to his cottage, and the cat ran indoors the moment Severus opened the front door.

The cat placed himself right in front of Severus' favourite chair and looked at him. It was like he told him to get a move on and join him. Severus chuckled and did so.

He sat down and looked at the cat.

“You really do look like Prince, do you know that?”

The cat meowed.

“Oh cat, oh cat,” Severus smiled. Then suddenly it hit him.

“CAT? KAT? It's Kat's birthday!”

He jumped up from his chair and ran into the kitchen to find a calendar.

“When did it get 30th of November?” he asked himself. “It was just Halloween a couple of days ago, wasn't it?”

However, the calender had to be right, and his potions brewing confirmed the dated. How could a whole month pass without his noticing? He had planned to send something ages ago. “It's bloody December tomorrow!”

But that was not what was important. It was Kat's birthday! Severus was getting stressed. He had to do something special. He couldn't let a special day like this pass without doing something. Where had November gone? He hurried into the living room and looked around. He had no idea what he was looking for, but suddenly his eyes fell on the cat.

“What shall I do, Prince?” Severus asked the cat, suddenly realizing what he had called it.

The cat stared at him and meowed.

Severus suddenly got an idea. He ran into his laboratory and found a tiny vial. He hurried into the kitchen, scribbled something on a note and went into the living room where the cat stood alert, ready for action.

“I must be crazy for doing this.” Severus muttered as he bent down and tied the vial and the note to the cat.

The cat meowed and walked towards the door.

Severus opened and let it out.

“Happy birthday, Kat,” he whispered into the cold, winter air.

“Argh, what is that sound?” said Kat. She was sitting in her apartment, writing on her laptop when she heard a scratching noise on the door. He rose from her chair and went to see what it was all about.

On the outside of her door was a white cat, with something tied around its neck.

She bent down and untied the note and vial and started reading. The cat ran away as soon as she had released the mail.

Dear Kat

I'm taking a chance on this cat today...

Happy birthday.

I hope you are having a wonderful day.

Best wishes,
Severus

P.S. I hope you enjoy your little present. If you wonder what it is, take a lucky guess.

Kat grabbed the vial and smiled. “Felix felicis? Thank you, Severus.”

A/N: Just as you know, I didn't forget your birthday, I have just been walking around all day wondering what I should write to you ;) I hope you enjoyed it!
