Advent drabble #13 - The Mutt
Today's challenge:
Severus Snape/Molly Weasley
Prompt: Sirius Black
Words: orchid, scarf, Filch
The Mutt
“Severus?” Molly Weasley said surprised. “What are you doing here?”
Severus Snape was confused. “I was told there was a meeting at three.”
“Oh, dear.” said Molly. “Some members are late back from their missions, so it's been moved to four, didn't anyone tell you?”
“Apparently not,” Snape muttered and turned to the door. “I'll come back later.”
“Don't be silly, dear. Sit down, I'll make you a cuppa.”
“I don't know -”
“Sit!” Molly demanded, and Snape felt no choice but to sit down at the kitchen table.
“I know you don't like to stay here for meals, but a cup of tea won't hurt you.” Molly said and took a mug out of the cupboard.
Snape removed his cloak and scarf and nodded courtly as Molly filled his cup.
“Now where is the sugar?” Molly asked herself. “I can't find anything in this stupid kitchen.”
“Why, the ancient house of Black isn't good enough for Mrs Weasley?” Snape said sarcastically.
Molly giggled. “It's really nice of Sirius to lend us his house, but that house elf keeps hiding everything from us.”
“Oh,” Severus replied with obvious disappointment in his voice.
“Not too fond of Sirius, I take it?” Molly smiled to the dark haired man.
Snape didn't answer and Molly moved her attention to a withered orchid on the kitchen counter. She desperately tried to magic the life back into the plant, but there was no hope. She eventually gave up, took a cup of tea and sat down next to Snape.
“To tell you the truth, I'm not that excited about him either.” Molly sighed. “I'm grateful that he lets us use this house, but I don't like the way he is acting. He's just so...”
“Full of himself? Stuck up? Obnoxious?” Snape suggested.
“I was about to say reckless, but yes, that too,” Molly giggled and nudged Severus' side making him spill his tea. “Oops, sorry.”
Severus cast a quick cleansing charm on the table. “Yes, definitely reckless.”
“I understand that it's important to tell Harry certain things about the Order and about You-Know-Who, but did he have to tell him everything?”
“Exactly!” Snape agreed. “The boy should not be let in on so much information. He's not ready for that yet.”
“My thoughts exactly.” Molly nodded. “And of course he had to come with us to King's Cross and risking exposure.”
“That damned mutt!” Snape muttered. “If only Filch had been allowed to punish him and his little friends like they deserved, he might have learned a thing or two about consequences of his actions.”
“Well, I'm not so sure about that,” Molly took a sip of her tea and looked at Snape, “but I do agree that Dumbledore is too soft sometimes.”
“Absolutely!” Severus Snape agreed, “but I still think that Filch should be allowed to knock some sense into the bloody canine.”
“Bloody canine?” Sirius Black stood in the doorway. “I hope you're not talking about me, Snape.”
“Don't flatter yourself, Black.” Snape sneered. “Not everything is about you.”
Snape rose from his seat. “If you excuse me, Mrs Weasley. I have something I have to tend to before the meeting starts.”
He hurried out of Grimmauld Place. Molly Weasley had been tolerable enough, but there was no way he was spending half an hour stuck in a kitchen with bloody Sirius Black!
